Dr. Hyerim Mapp

Cello, Concert Orchestra - Sessions 1 & 2

Dr. Hyerim Mapp is a cellist whose passion for music resonates across various settings. Currently, she is an orchestra director at Centennial High School in Las Cruces, a cellist at Las Cruces Symphony, and El Paso Symphony Orchestra.

She has held principal cellist positions with orchestras throughout the United States, collaborating with renowned groups like the Des Moines and Omaha Symphonies. She has also frequently performed with esteemed orchestras such as the Tucson and Kansas City Symphonies.

Beyond the orchestral realm, Dr. Mapp captivates audiences as a soloist. She has shared the stage with orchestras like the Southern Symphony and Kansas City Civic Orchestra, even collaborating with the world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Her chamber music experience is equally rich. As part of Piano Trio Con Spirito, she has performed at prestigious festivals. Currently, her ensemble, Trio Enchantment, takes her to international stages like the Montreal International Horn Society Symposium.

Dr. Mapp’s dedication extends to education, where she has served as music faculty at esteemed institutions like New Mexico State University, Pittsburg State University, and Washburn University.

She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in cello performance from the University of Kansas. Prior to her US studies, she established a strong foundation in her native Korea, studying and teaching music at Sejong University, where she was a celebrated concerto competition winner.

Currently, she resides in Las Cruces, New Mexico, with her husband, Dr. Michael W. Mapp, and their furry companion, Karma.
