Neil Mitchell

In high demand as a pianist, vocal coach, and music director/conductor, Neil enjoys a versatile career ranging from opera/art song to musical theatre. Currently he is employed as a full-time staff pianist at the University of Central Oklahoma where plays for voice lessons, recitals, masterclasses, musical theatre classes, and juries. He also music directs one musical a semester and teaches applied vocal coachings and aural skills courses as a part of this position. Other staff pianist appointments include University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Rutgers
University, and Westminster Choir College.

This will be Neil’s second summer as a resident coach for Chicago Summer Opera for two years working with their productions of Hänsel und Gretel, Gianni Schicchi, and The Medium. In the summer of 2023, he was awarded a collaborative piano fellowship for Musiktheatre Bavaria in Oberaudorf, Germany, where he played for both the opera and musical theatre studios. Other notable summer festivals include The Collaborative Piano Institute and the CoOPERAtive program. He is a graduate of the AJ Fletcher Opera Institute at University of North Carolina School of the Arts where he held a collaborative piano assistantship while earning his Master’s of Music degree in Collaborative Piano. He earned a BA in Music from Westminster Choir
College.

Past credits as a pianist/music director for musicals include 9 to 5 (University of Central Oklahoma), Alan Menken’s A Christmas Carol (Crossroads Theatre Company), Little Shop of Horrors, The Addams Family, The Little Mermaid, Annie (Allegra School of Music and Arts), and more.
